How to become a marriage celebrant
Besides having the right personal qualities to carry out the role, you must become t be qualified. This requires completion of a Certificate IV in celebrancy. This Certificate IV courseis offered by Talented Training. It will provide you with all the information you need to know about the processes and procedures associated with marriage celebrancy.
Once you have completed the Certificate IV in marriage celebrancy, you will be required to apply to the Attorney General’s department for a celebrant’s licence. They will assess your suitability based upon whether you have any criminal history or conflicts of interest. They will also make enquiries about your standing in the community
Once you have been approved by the registrar, you can apply for an ABN if you plan on issuing clients with invoices.
What does it cost?
Talented Training has a range of options for course completion. We are able to work out a payment plan to suit your needs.
When you are ready to apply for a licence, you will need to pay the Australian Government a $600 fee. Renewal of your registration costs $240 annually.
Is there a difference between same-sex & heterosexual couple’s ceremonies?
In a word – no. The amendments to marriage ceremony requirements are mandatory in all marriage celebrations. There are no divisive parameters designed to separate heterosexual and same-sex marriages.

Besides requiring your annual fee of $240, the Australian Government insists that celebrants complete at least five hours of ongoing professional development annually with a registered training organisation.
